• Summer 2026 courses begin Monday, June 8.
• Participants can only register for 2 courses per semester.
• Empty “seats” must be available in both in-person and on-line courses for a Meritus Scholar to attend.
• Meritus Scholars participants do not have to meet pre-requisite requirements for courses they attend. They just need the approval of the instructor.
• Attendance in courses is always at the discretion of the course instructor.
• Courses are taken on a non-credit basis. If you wish to earn credit, then you should apply through the regular admissionsÌý±è°ù´Ç³¦±ð²õ²õ.
• You only apply for admission IF you want to take the course for credit, which involves paying regular tuition and fees. Meritus Scholars participants do not formally register for the courses they wish to audit, nor do they need to apply to be admitted to the University.
• Do not contact Admissions or Registration to register in the Meritus Scholars Program, you may inadvertently be admitted/registered through the university and may receive a tuition bill.

Guidelines* for Meritus Scholars in World Languages Courses

Welcome! We’re excited to have you in our classes. To help you succeed and enjoy your experience, please review these expectations:

1. Time Commitment

• Our classes are interactive and require regular preparation.
• Plan to spend time outside of class reviewing materials, completing assignments, and practicing language skills.

2. Technology Requirements

• Canvas: All courses will rely on Canvas as their Learning Management System (LMS). You must be able to log in and navigate the platform.
• Microsoft Teams: Online classes use MS Teams for communication, office hours, and possible group work. Make sure you can access and use Teams on your device.
• If you are taking an online class, you need to be able to record yourself through Canvas. There is a short instructional video available in the Meritus Scholars Canvas course.

3. Active Participation

• Language learning is a collaborative process. Be ready to engage in class activities, discussions, and group work.
• Respectful and consistent participation is expected.

4. Communication

• Check your ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï email and Canvas announcements regularly for updates.
• If you have questions or need help, reach out to your instructor early.

*Please note that individual instructors have the right to add, modify, or remove these recommendations in their specific courses.

If you need to drop a course, please email the course information to [email protected]. ÌýProvide your university ID number, the semester you are attending the course, and the five-digit CRN of the course that is being dropped.

You cannot contact IT to drop a course. ÌýYou must request the drop from the Meritus Scholars staff by sending your request to [email protected].

The program staff will work with the IT department to have you removed from the Canvas course.

The Meritus Scholars Online Registration Form works best when used with a Chrome browser.

1. If you have not participated in over a year, please complete the , or contact Meritus Scholars at [email protected] so your credentials can be re-activated in the university system. You cannot register until you are active in the system.
2. To use the online registration form, you will need to enable your ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï email account. New participants check your email for your university identification number, NetID, email address, and instructions. ÌýReturning participants that need to re-activate their account, please contact Meritus Scholars at [email protected].

If you do not have an official ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï identification card, please contact Meritus Scholars at [email protected]. Campus buildings are locked for security purposes and you will need an ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï identification card for building access.

You have the option of using the Meritus Scholars Paper Form if you have issues using the online registration form.Ìý Email [email protected] to request the form.

1. Take the form to the first day of class and ask the instructor for permission to attend the course and request they sign the form.

3. Or, you can email the instructor the form and once they have signed it ask them to email it to you and then you can forward it by email to [email protected] for processing.
