The Challenge

Over 50 million people in the U.S. —Ìýabout 1 in 7Ìý— experience mental illness, yet there isÌýonlyÌý1 mental health provider for every 350 individuals.ÌýIn Colorado, this shortage is especially severe, withÌýtwice as many vacant mental health jobsÌýcompared to similar-sized regions.

Despite earning advanced degrees,Ìý57% of master’s-level graduatesÌýnever achieve licensureÌýdue to financial, regulatory, and time barriers, disproportionately impacting underrepresented groups.

The Solution

The Mental Health Workforce Accelerator Collaborative

In collaboration withÌý, theÌý, and theÌýGina and Frank Day Health Institute at ÍøÆسԹÏ, this program bridges the gap between degrees and licensure by providing:

  • Salary stipendsÌýand supervision for clinical licensure.
  • Access toÌýstudy resources, licensure application reimbursement, and monthly group supervision.
  • Clinical roles in community settings, with a focus on serving vulnerable populations.

By reducing barriers, we will increase the number of fully licensed professionals while diversifying the workforce to reflect the communities they serve.

Program Goals

  1. Increase percentage of master’s degree graduates who become licensed in the state of Colorado
  2. Increase number of patients served by partially qualified pre and post master’s candidates.
  3. Increase diversity (e.g., race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, language, geographic and cultural) of fully licensed master’s level mental health professionals in the state of Colorado
  4. Improve Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) health professional shortage area scores in identified target communities.
