OVERVIEW
The CJC department provides short-term study abroad programs in Asia and Europe:
This three-credit hour program involves the study and visitation of sites that represent the criminal justice system in a comparative form to that of the U.S. Criminal Justice System. Students will have ample opportunities to learn about both local and international criminal justice systems through travel, site visits, and lectures about police, courts, prisons, juveniles, terrorism and much more! (CJC 1010 Introduction to the Criminal Justice System is the only prerequisite.) A typical short-term CJC study abroad program runs about 10 days.

The Hungarian Criminal Justice System
March 18 – 28, 2025
This program focuses on the international criminal justice system, covering police, prosecution, courts, corrections, and cybersecurity in Hungary. As a regular Criminal Justice course (CJC 3820 Study Abroad) worth 3 credit hours (prerequisite: CJC 1010 Introduction to the Criminal Justice System), this program offers a unique opportunity to delve into the Hungarian criminal justice and cybersecurity challenges. From March 18 – 28, students will also explore the social, cultural, and political landscape of Hungary, engaging with local communities and participating in site visits to gain a deeper understanding of the country’s unique perspectives on justice and law enforcement.

The British Criminal Justice System
November 14 – 24, 2023
Join us for a unique opportunity to explore the criminal justice system and cybersecurity in the UK. This program offers 3 cred hours (CJC 3820 Study Abroad) during Fall 2023 and students will spend nine nights (ten days) in the UK. This comparative criminal justice program allows you to discover the similarities and differences between the US and British criminal justice systems. You will also learn about social, cultural, and political issues in the UK. The only prerequisite for tis program is CJC 1010 Introduction to the Criminal Justice System.
When: The group will be departing on November 14, and returning on November 24. During the trip, students will spend nine nights in the UK.
Where: The program includes tours of several note-worth locations, such as the Houses of Parliament, the Tower of London, the metropolitan Police, the Cyber Resilience Center, and other sites related to criminal justice, cybersecurity, social, cultural, and historical contexts.
How Much: The program fee will be $4,046 for 20 students per person and will cover expenses such as airfare, hotel accommodations, tours of Stonehenge, and Parliament, a ride on the London Eye, and Thames Boat, some meals, and ground transportation. The program fee will be $4,395 for 15 students per person.

The Korean Criminal Justice System
November 15 – 25, 2022
Did you watch Squid Game? How about Parasite? Have you ever listened to BTS songs? As you may know, all these are from Korea. In fact, Korea is one of the most dynamic and innovative countries in the world. If you’re interested in learning about Korea and its criminal justice system (CJS) in addition to society, you may want to consider enrolling in this study abroad program. This is a regular CJC course for 3 credit hours (CJC 3820 Study Abroad), and it focuses on the Korean CJS that covers police, prosecution, courts, and corrections.
Through this comparative program, you will learn differences and similarities of the CJC between the U.S. and Korea. Also, you will meet many local people to experience its vibrant culture that can expand your perspective.
When: The group will leave on November 15 and return on November 25. Students will spend 9 nights (10 days) in two cities (Seoul and Daejeon). There are two pre-departure meetings and one post-travel meeting.
Where: This program includes guided tours of Korea Parliament, Supreme Court of Korea, Court, Prison, Police Department, Korea national Police University, War Memorial, Buddhist Temple, Demilitarized Zone, to name a few.
How Much: It will cost $3,750 with a minimum of 10 students. A minimum of 15 will drop the cost to $3,340 per person. The cost includes all travel expenses, including air far, hotel, ground transportation, and meals. University tuition, student fees, and other personal expenses are not included.
Payment Schedule: Full payment for travel is due on September 5.

The Dutch Criminal Justice System
March 19 – March 28, 2020
This program focuses on the international criminal justice system and covers police, prosecution, courts, and corrections in The Hague, The Netherlands. Through this comparative criminal justice program, you will lean differences and similarities between the U.S. and Dutch criminal justice systems. This is a regular CJC course for 3 credit hours (CJC 3820 Study Abroad). Students will also learn about social, cultural, and political issues in The Netherlands. CJC 1010 Introduction to the Criminal Justice Systems is the only prerequisite.
When: The group will leave on March 19 and return on March 28. Students will spend eight nights in The Hague.
Where: This program includes guided tours of the International Criminal Court, Organisation of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, National police Force, The Hague Security Delta plus many more historical spots.
How Much: It will cost about $3,000 and it includes air fare, hotel, and ground transportation.
