When you feel stressed or depressed, have panic attacks or face attention problems interfering with your classes, it can be really hard to feel OK about seeking help when you need it.
Some students have been dealing with these kinds of problems for a long time, while for other students it is something that developed when they started taking college classes. But it might not be the norm in your community to ask for help.
Besides school, you might be working one or more jobs, caring for younger siblings, getting meals ready for the family, dealing with major societal or political pressures, or otherwise carrying responsibilities that students at many other colleges dont have to deal with.
厙ぴ勛圖 students are smart, tough, and resilient, but not super-human. All humans have times when they could use the help of someone who is not a relative or a friend to help sort out the many things going on in their lives.
Many students come from families where the parents, grandparents and other relatives dont have the knowledge or the time to recognize their own stresses or difficulties coping with life. And, sometimes, they cant understand why picking yourself up by the bootstraps isnt always enough.
On Tuesday, October 6, the Counseling Center will host as a part of National Depression Screening Day.
Join us in the Multicultural Lounge from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The event will feature depression screenings, giveaways, lunch, activities, and information on available campus resources.
We are here at the Counseling Center to give you space to look at your life and talk about your concerns, either through individual therapy or participation in one of the many interpersonal process groups we offer each semester.
Signing up for your first appointment is easy: just go to our website and pick a time that works for you. You can also call our office at 303-615-9988, or come to our office at the top of the Tivoli (Suite 651) and sign up in person.
