Students in the Film and Media Studies Minor learn to think and write critically about film and media as a significant form of culture. You will interpret and analyze filmic and digital texts, attending to their contexts as well as their formal and stylistic elements, and apply criticism, theory, and terminology to what you watch, read, and create.
The 20-credit minor consists of five courses: an introduction to film and media studies, then four electives. The electives include variable topics courses in literature and film, cinema genres, cinema directors, and film and media studies, so offerings change and you can follow your interests across the field.
Study the medium that shapes our culture. Film and media literacy strengthens majors across the University: communication and journalism students studying the media they will work in, marketing and design students decoding visual storytelling, history and philosophy students examining how ideas move through culture, and any student who wants to understand the screens at the center of modern life.
